Welcome Walk & ROARientation 2024: A Memorable “NurStory”

Updated: Aug 26

The new batch of first-year nursing students celebrated their in-person welcoming rites last August 5, 2024. A total of 232 students divided into six sections were warmly received by the UST College of Nursing for A.Y. 2024-2025.

Nursing students wore distinctive attire of cowboy hats, bandanas, pins, and white shirts in correspondence to the college’s theme of the year, “NurStory.” They participated in the a.m. session alongside the College of Accountancy, Conservatory of Music, Faculty of Arts and Letters, College of Fine Arts and Design, Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, College of Rehabilitation Sciences, and College of Information and Computing Sciences.

The nursing freshmen assembled in their designated rooms within the San Martin De Porres Building at 6:30 a.m. They began their mobilization to the Quadricentennial Pavilion Arena at 6:40 a.m. and occupied the seats on the third floor, Ruaño side. The Welcome Mass presided by UST Rector Rev. Fr. Richard Ang, O.P. started at 8:00 a.m., followed by the ROARientation at 9:20 a.m. Various games, informative videos, and performances featuring different UST organizations were showcased during the ROARientation 2024, with the theme “Embracing the Thomasian Spirit: Roar Your Way In!” There was also a special song number from the actor-singer Pepe Herrera, a UST Conservatory of Music alumnus. Afterward, the nursing freshmen paraded for the Welcome Walk at 12:30 p.m. to pass inside the Arch of the Centuries and conclude their welcoming rites for the day.

The Welcome Mass, ROARientation, and Welcome Walk are traditions conducted at the start of the academic year. It serves as a cordial welcome for UST first-year students and a symbolic gateway to Thomasian life filled with competence, commitment, and compassion. The journey of nursing freshmen at UST has just begun, and they are now ready to embark on their path to becoming the next generation of healthcare providers.
