Fr. Factora, and Dean Rowena Escolar-Chua, highlighted the nursing students’ excellence and compassion amidst the stress and hardships of their academic endeavors. They both recognized the hard work of every nursing student, encouraged them to continue striving for excellence yet take time to enjoy events like the nursing week celebration.
Right after the Eucharistic Celebration, nursing students were mobilized within their blocks to march off to the Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati Building where the NURSPELL Kick Off Event took place. The sections, together with their class presidents, flaunted their class banners and cheered their own, greatly empowering the spirits for the annual celebration. Hosted by the heads of the Productions Department: Kristine Anne Bumatay and Nicole Jeyalicia Ravago, the Kick Off Event easily took the reins in building up the anticipation for the many events the upcoming week had to offer. Performances from various nursing organizations were also enjoyed by the student body. UST Nursing Journal member, Andreih Jose Caritativo, showcased a heartfelt spoken poetry reminiscing the hardships and good experiences in a nursing student’s life. Selected members from the UST Chorus of the Nightingales impressed with their vocal prowess by singing medleys of renowned Disney songs in acapella. On the other hand, the UST Nursing Dance Troupe brought the groove to the celebration with a performance of their choreography, showcasing glamor and sultriness with their dance moves. To further boost the entertained atmospheres, game facilitators from the Productions Department also organized a mini-game of message relay, with various participants from each year level enacting lyrics and demonstrating words from popular international songs. Capping off the event, NCBS Bursar, Mary Claire Zuñiga, expressed her words of gratitude to fellow members of the NCBS and encouraged the student body to make the most out of the three-day celebration.
More importantly, marked off as the most anticipated and last event of the first day was “The Golden iCON: Where Iconic Stars Meet You.” Debuting its first installment at this year’s Nursing Week, performers of each year level showcased their talents in dancing and lip syncing as they stunned the crowd with their jaw-dropping and delightful showcases. The Freshmen batch made a spectacle of impersonating Filipino-Canadian singer Darren Espanto, serenading the crowd with the singer’s famous hits such as “Dying Inside to Hold you” and “In Love Ako Sa’yo.” Sophomores, in their own creative touch, impersonated global popstars Lady Gaga and Beyoncé with their hit song “Telephone.” The Juniors, on the other hand, took the audience down memory lane as they made their own musical version of The High School Musical with famous characters Troy Bolton, Gabriella Montez, and the rest of the musical ensemble. Lastly, with their flamboyant costumes and well-choreographed production numbers, the Seniors gave a heartfelt and wonderful rendition of the movie, “The Greatest Showman.”
With all these events, the Nursing Week truly continues to be a memorable and eventful commemoration of the beauty that is the Nursing profession. May it persevere in its purpose, providing the UST Nursing community with great joy and honor.
