UST welcomes Nursing Batch 2026

A total of 149 nursing freshmen waved their green flags as they made their way through the Arch of the Centuries during the morning session of the Thomasian Welcome Walk on Tuesday, August 9.

After two years of online freshmen onboarding events due to the pandemic, the annual ROARientation and symbolic Welcome Walk were once more conducted the traditional on-campus way.

The event was divided into morning and afternoon sessions, the former being participated by the first-year nursing students. Each session started with the Welcome Mass, followed by the ROARientation, before proceeding with the much anticipated Welcome Walk.

UST Rector Fr. Richard Ang, O.P. led the celebration of the morning Welcome Mass. In his homily, he emphasized yielding traits alike to a tiger’s, the university mascot.

“Be like a tiger that has strength, ferocity, and power. [T]hey may be considered explicitly as the new core values of UST,” he stated.

Monica Gleza de Vera of 1Nur-1 described the Walk as one of her core memories. “It’s so nice to be part of a community that is so welcoming and friendly. I’m grateful to all the people who made all this possible, and I’m also looking forward to experiencing more of UST,” she remarked.

UST Secretary-General Rev. Fr. Louie Coronel, O.P. led the first-year nursing students as they passed through the Arch.

The day ended with the unveiling of the new 8-foot Bengal tiger statue and UST block letters at the Plaza Mayor. The statue symbolized the University rising above the ongoing health crisis and aggressive expansion outside Manila.

Incoming Grade 7 and 11 Thomasians were welcomed with the hybrid “ALAB 2022” on Wednesday, August 10. “Homecoming” celebrations will be held on August 23 for Batches 2024 and 2025.
