UST NURSING RESUMES LIMITED FACE-TO-FACE CLASSES

After more than a year of virtual learning, the UST College of Nursing started limited face-to-face classes for fourth-year students this week.

In February 2021, UST received approval from the Manila City government to conduct limited f2f classes for health allied programs such as Nursing.

Metro Manila shifted to Alert Level II on November 4, permitting classes in higher education only with strict compliance to health protocols.

Approximately 140 students are deployed for the first batch of onsite class recipients, where they will practice their clinical skills in the laboratory class setting.

Students were required to get RT-PCR tests at the University of Santo Tomas Hospital (USTH) prior to deployment.

Only those who tested negative are allowed to go to class, while those testing positive or having symptoms shall follow the COVID-19 protocols set by USTH.

Students are also mandated to accomplish daily health declaration forms in StaySafe PH and Thomasian Online Medical Services and Support (ThOMedSS). They are to coordinate closely with their Clinical Instructors (CIs) should they experience symptoms.

“Finally, returning to school is a reprieve to our senior students from the "draining" online classes. Though only in the skills lab, this will be an excellent opportunity for our seniors to hone their skills in preparation for future practice. In any case, the risk for COVID-19 is still there; thus, we should still follow strict health protocols,” Asst. Dean Maria Glenda Lee G. Sevilla told The Nursing Journal.
