The University of Santo Tomas College of Nursing hosted the 3rd International Research Conference for Nursing Students (IRCONS) on April 30 at the San Martin De Porres Building and Cinematorium.
Asst. Prof. Ritzmond Loa led the program as the overall Faculty Chair alongside his co-chairs Asst. Prof. Les Paul Valdez and Asst. Prof. Dennis Cuadra. Asst. Prof. Sherihan Montana, Angelo Ferrer of 4NUR3, and Roechen Mendoza of 4NUR5 served as the Master of Ceremonies.
Prof. Rozanno Locsin gave the opening keynote entitled “Leveraging Nursing Science in Transforming Healthcare.”
Three plenary sessions were held. Prof. Lourdes Tejero, director of UPM Technology Transfer & Business Development Office, discussed Global Trends and Technological Innovations in Nursing Practice. Jacquelyn McMillian-Bohler, Advisory Board for Institute of Education Excellence of Duke University School of Nursing, deliberated on Global Trends and Technological Innovations in Nursing Education. The last plenary session covered Leadership and Policy Innovation in Nursing Practice, led by Roselle Marie Azucena.
After the open forum, the poster exhibit commenced featuring poster presentations from different nursing schools from across the country, including Bulacan State University, Colegio de San Juan de Letran, St. Bernadette of Lourdes College, San Juan De Dios Educational Foundation, West Visayas State University, St. Jude College of Dasmariñas, Manila Central University, and Saint Anthony’s College.
Following the poster presentations were the oral presentations held at different rooms of the San Martin De Porres Building. The participants were given fifteen minutes each to present their research study and answer questions from the evaluators. Presentations were also given by nursing students from Manila Tytana Colleges, Thammasat University, Ateneo De Zamboanga University, Trinity University of Asia, Emilio Aguinaldo College, San Beda University, St. Dominic College of Asia Cavite, St. Louis University, and Far Eastern University.
Both the oral and poster presentations were categorized into Leadership and Governance, Care Delivery and Patient Experience, Nursing Education and Workforce Development, Technology and Digital Health, and Public Health & Population Health.
Prof. Hugh McKenna gave a closing keynote on the Pursuit of Excellence in Nursing: Challenges for the Next Decade.
One research group from each category and type of presentation were awarded “Best Poster Presentation” or “Best Oral Presentation. The program ended with closing remarks and acknowledgments from Prof. Rowena Escolar Chua, dean of the UST College of Nursing.
IRCONS is a research conference that gathers leading nursing experts to discuss the latest trends, issues, and innovations in nursing research, education, and practice. It offers nursing students nationwide to conduct their own research presentations on the newest developments in the nursing field.
The program was also held through Zoom to accommodate online participants due to the announcement of transport strike.
