UST Nursing Batch 2015 alumnus Kim Sia placed fourth in the Physician Licensure Examination (PLE) held last October 21-22 & 28-29 after garnering a rating of 87.67%.
In 2015, he graduated Cum Laude from the College of Nursing and received the Sor Taciana Triñanes Silver Award for Excellence in Related Learning Experience (RLE). In the same year, he took the Philippine Nursing Licensure Exam (PNLE) which he also topped after landing on the fifth place with a rating of 85.40%.
He became a national lecturer for PNLE under a review center for a year before entering UST-FMS in 2017. He said he is thankful for his nursing knowledge that helped him through their clinical subjects in 2nd to 4th year, specifically Obstetrics and Internal Medicine.
At this point, Sia still feels that “everything is unreal,” not expecting he would clinch a place at the topnotcher list. According to him, he even wanted to cry after the last subject as he guessed his way through the majority of the questions that were unfamiliar.
Moreover, he told UST Nursing Journal that the clinical knowledge and skills he gained from the College will help him in his medical practice.
“I think [one] important thing is your relationship with nurses because [as] a nurse myself, I know somehow ‘yung struggles and needs nila, and with that comes better nurse-physician relationship,” the topnotcher stated.
Currently, he plans to take a break for a year to do moonlighting, after which he will take up residency training either in the country or abroad.
Sia got his medical degree from the UST Faculty of Medicine and Surgery (FMS) in 2021 as Magna Cum Laude. He continued his year-long post-graduate internship at the University of the Philippines - Philippine General Hospital (UP-PGH) before taking the Board exams in October.
