On Friday, August 25, 2023, the UST College of Nursing – Commission on Elections (COMELEC), along with the Nursing Central Board of Students’ (NCBS) Executive Board and Legislative Board, and Class Presidents of the College of Nursing, held their first legislative and executive board assembly. This assembly was a sequel to the Executive Board elections held on March 29, 2023, where some positions had no candidates. Thus, the event aimed to elect positions in the Executive and Legislative Boards of the NCBS for the Academic Year 2023-2024.

Under Article 15 of the Constitution-and-By-Laws of the Student Government of the UST College of Nursing 2009, special elections must be held through a specific process where the participants, including the class presidents, vote to elect candidates among themselves. The special elections also include the appointment of the legislative board.

The event began with a brief introduction to the constitution and by-laws, followed by a discussion of the roles and responsibilities of the vacant positions in the legislative and executive boards. Despite the encouraging words shared, most of the participants declined their nominations. However, the legislative board successfully gained students who were willing to fill in the positions. The students who were triumphant in the special elections were as follows: Viviene Sta. Ana, president of 3NUR-5 as speaker; Leighla Darylle Abes, president of 2NUR-1 as deputy speaker; and Aaron Keith Panganiban, president of 1NUR-1 as secretary-general.

However, due to time constraints, the positions of treasurer, assistant treasurer, auditor, and public relations officer remain unfilled. The positions will be filled in with another special election, with further details to be announced by the UST College of Nursing COMELEC.

The executive board may still be incomplete, but the student leaders’ passion for serving never ceases to persist as the passion continues to burn through the heart of the Thomasian Nursing Community.
