Sinespaña Film Festival 2021: Films by student nurses capture online college experiences

Nursing students showed off their acting, writing, and directing skills during the UST College of Nursing Sinespaña Film Festival 2021 with a theme "Tell Me Your NurSTORY: A Ticket to Your Nursing Journey," held on November 18 and 19.

First screening day featured the Juniors' film, "Sa Likod ng Lente," which focused on how three students' issues affected their academics and the freshmen's film, "Zoom Into The Nursing World," which offered a lighthearted perspective on the daily lives of nursing students.

Meanwhile, the second screening day featured the seniors' film, "Tila Tala," which tackled mental health issues, and the sophomores' film, "If It's Meant To Be," which showcased a nursing student's relationship with her course.

At the Culminating Event on November 20, "Tila Tala" by ALAS KWATRO Productions was announced as the Best Picture. Other awards they received were Best Movie Teaser, Best in Screenplay, Best in Cinematography, and Best in Sound Design. The star of the film, Krizia Macasaet of 4NUR-5, was named Best Actress.

"Sa Likod Ng Lente" bagged the People's Choice Award, Best Movie Poster, Best Movie Trailer, and Third Best Picture. "If It's Meant To Be" secured the Second Best Picture, while Aimee Aquino of 2NUR-1 won as Best Supporting Actress. "Zoom Into The Nursing World" was declared the Fourth Best Picture, while its cast members John Fernandez of 1NUR-4 and Sean Banzon of 1NUR-4 won Best Supporting Actor and Best Actor, respectively.

The awards were given after the deliberation of a panel of judges consisting of Patrick Celso, Lloyd Evangelista, and Asst. Prof. Evangeline Matienzo. Audience opinions were also taken into account through online voting in online forms disseminated to the student body.

In an interview with the event's hosts, Matienzo said that the films should be "like how we treat our patient; it should be holistic, so maganda 'yong pagkakagawa, matatamaan ang [puso], but most of all, sana maparating kung anuman ang message."

The Sinespaña Film Festival was one of the main events of the UST CON's Nursing Week 2021. It was held in Zoom and live-streamed on Facebook from 6-8 p.m.
