Seniors undergo Disaster Nursing Onsite Training

To be equipped with the knowledge and skills needed in emergencies and disasters, 4th year nursing students started their Disaster Nursing OnsiteTraining last March 22, 2022, at the UST Grounds.

The half-day event was facilitated by the Rescue 177 training center, focusing on Hands-On Training in Emergency Management.

The onsite training had the following phases: Intermediate First Aid, Extrication during Emergency Rescue Methods on a Surface Area, Proper Handling and use of Fire extinguishers, and Basic Life Support (BLS) in the New Normal.

"I believe disaster training is essential for nursing students as it helps sharpen and enhance our skills and critical thinking and help us prepare physically and psychologically to respond to different emergencies and impending disasters," expressed Rashel Mariano from 4NUR5, one of the participants in the event.

As a requirement for their Disaster Nursing Course, 316 senior students were divided into two batches for the training, with the first batch scheduled on March 22 and the second batch on March 26.

Prior to the onsite training, a lecture presentation on community-based disaster preparedness was also conducted via zoom on March 19.
