Senior year: It’s been a long time coming

Coffee cups, alarms, dorms, fresh morning air, a tap of an ID, and an entrance to the doors opening to a sea of white.

The line, which was definitely longer than expected, tells you that you’re definitely not alone in your state of mind.

Whether it’s the RLE orientation or the first of lecture classes, everyone has a mix of clinging nervousness and joyful anticipation as the professors walk in and survey the room like a hawk scanning the ground for prey. At least, it seems like that to a senior such as yourself who knows all too well how vicious the nursing classes can be.

With the orientation comes a first peek at the mountain of responsibilities and obligations that await you. Along comes a slew of new faces, but also ones that exude comfort. Some are people you’ve laughed and cried with since your freshman year, and quite a few are people you’ve only seen on computer screens.

After three years with two not even spent in the campus itself, you unlock a level just when you thought there was only so much you could take. Nursing is not for the faint of heart, but the goal you’ve formed since the moment you entered the college remains bright, albeit slightly tarnished. It is not anymore the start, but it is still just the beginning.

You’ve come so far to back down now. With human lives at stake and procedures you’ve yet to try, you’ve got a lot learning ahead of you, and no number of motivational quotes will bring you to the summit if you don’t put in the work yourself. It is time to polish up and remember what brought you here in the first place.

Malayo pa, pero malayo na.

Padayon, student nurse!
