UST Red Cross Youth Council - Nursing Unit was hailed Best Presenter during the oral presentation of their research in the 6th International Conference on Translational Medicine and Health Sciences organized by the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Diponegoro in Semarang, Indonesia last October 28 to 29.
Led by seniors Margaux Gwyneth Lina (President), Diane Ricci Lavadia (External VP), Aleck Hans Ison (Treasurer), and Asst. Prof. Ma. Carina Rebueno (Adviser), the organization virtually presented their paper entitled “Filipino community dwellers COVID-19 Knowledge, Attitude, Practices and Health Literacy influence on their Pandemic Fatigue: A correlational study.”
The study described the influence of COVID-19 knowledge, attitude, practices, and health literacy on the level of pandemic fatigue of Filipinos living in the community.
The pandemic that hit the Philippines in March 2020 forced the government to order one of the longest lockdowns which led to pandemic fatigue (PF), a demotivation among the populace to adhere to health protocols due to cognitive and behavioral exhaustion.
Results revealed that Filipinos have a moderate level of PF. COVID-19 attitude negatively influenced pandemic fatigue, while COVID-19 knowledge directly influenced health literacy, attitude and practices. Moreover, health literacy also affected attitude and practices towards COVID.
The study emphasized that positive attitudes and health practices can create measures to prevent PF among community-dwellers. Also helpful in preventing or reducing PF in the community will be the establishment of evidence-based programs and measurements concentrating on improving the health literacy and COVID-19 information to community-dwellers in order to modify their attitude towards the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Entering the conference call, we received the news that we won. We were already happy to present internationally, but winning it astounded us,” Ison remarked.
The international conference was participated by students, graduate students, and professionals from various health fields both in-person and virtually from different countries.
