Pacquiao, Moreno Launch 2022 Bids

The bid for the 2022 national elections heats up as Senator Manny Pacquiao and Manila City Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso declare they will join next year's presidential race.

Pacquiao accepted the nomination of the Pimentel-headed PDP-Laban wing as presidential candidate for the 2022 polls at the National Assembly of the said faction last September 19, in Quezon City.

In his acceptance speech, the boxer-turned-senator promised to fight against corruption and vowed to put corrupt public officials behind bars. He adds that it is time for a clean government where every centavo goes to every Filipino.

“Sa mga nanunungkulan sa ating pamahalaan na patuloy na nagsasamantala at nagnanakaw sa kaban ng bayan, malapit na kayong magsama-sama sa kulungan. Your time is up!” Pacquiao said.

On the other hand, Manila City Mayor Isko Moreno announced his 2022 presidential bid last September 22, in the BASECO Compound, in Tondo, Manila.

Moreno mentioned that he wanted to run for president not because of ambition but rather because of the tragic and horrible situation the country is currently experiencing.

"Other countries conducted best practices, conducted field trials of scientific solutions. We, on the other hand, have used our people as guinea pigs in the longest and strictest experiment of unli-quarantines," Moreno said.

The local chief executive's running mate is Willie Ong, a social media personality and physician. In comparison, Pacquiao is yet to name his vice president for next year's elections.

Pacquiao and Moreno are the latest politicians who have publicly launched their national bids.

The Lacson-Sotto tandem was first to declare their plans for next year's elections on September 8. President Rodrigo Duterte, meanwhile, also accepted his party's nomination for Vice-Presidency earlier this month.
