Importante to lead NCBS ‘22-’23

Lone presidential and sophomore candidate Charles Hezekiah Importante was proclaimed president of the UST Nursing Central Board of Students for Academic Year 2022-2023 last Friday, April 8.

After almost a week of consecutive, simultaneously conducted online elections from April 4 to 8, the UST Central COMELEC announced the winners for both central and local student councils in the Proklamasyon 2022 held via Facebook Live. Nursing COMELEC Vice Chairperson Pia Francella Casas declared the candidates elected by the college.

“Winning means much more for the entirety of the college student body than it did for me, which is why I’m much more driven to serve all of you,” the president-elect said. “Sobrang nagpapasalamat ako sa suporta ninyo, UST College of Nursing. At dahil dito, maipapakita natin na dahil sa kontribusyon ng isa't isa, lahat ng proyekto natin ay nangyari at mangyayari dahil sa inyo, aking kapwa Tomasinong Nars,” Importante added.

Importante won the seat of presidency with 936 votes to his name. There were 160 abstentions and 3 ballots were left unanswered. Nicole Christiane Olvido was elected vice president with 937 votes. A total of 160 students abstained, while 2 ballots were unanswered. Sebastian dela Fuente, sole candidate running under the political party BISIG, was proclaimed secretary after obtaining 915 votes. There were 183 abstentions and a single unanswered ballot.

All three candidates ran unopposed. No candidate ran for the positions of public relations officer, auditor, treasurer, assistant treasurer, and assistant secretary.

Pursuant to articles XV and XVII of the existing constitution and by-laws of the student government of the college, the vacancies shall be filled in through special elections administered by the COMELEC to the Legislative Board, which comprises all duly elected class presidents from all year levels. Nursing COMELEC Chairperson Jaimie Kyle Antoinette Co said that the elections may be held by August of the next academic year after class elections are held.
