CON SC candidates bare plans at Miting de Avance 2022

Providing a platform to hear the stands and principles of Thomasian student leaders, the UST Nursing Comelec organized TAGISAN: the UST CON Miting de Avance on April 2, 2022, virtually via Zoom.

The event centered on introducing this year's candidates for the local student council elections and posing questions on the candidates' competencies, platforms, and their stands on different issues students and the college face.

Only three students are vying for posts on the Nursing Central Board of Students for this school year. Charles Hezekiah Importante (Independent) for President, Nicole Christiane Olvido (Independent) for Vice President, and Sebastian Dela Fuente (Bisig Partylist) for Secretary.

Importante, in his opener, highlighted ALON: Authenticity in Leadership and Openness to Narratives. He envisions a council that recognizes, represents, and redefines the capabilities of the student body, which is synthesized in team-building activities, advocacy projects from research innovations in the college, and community development projects.

"I can confidently say that I will become the president that you and I deserve, for the College of Nursing and for the overall student body. Through personal gains, I've realized that the mass[es], the student body, is much more important to serve than what I deem it to be. To become a student leader that will represent and also uplift the amount of concerns that we have during this pandemic and during our academic years, it is something that I want to give to all of you," expressed Importante.

On the other hand, Olvido presented the STEPS initiative: Student Transformation and Empowerment in Partnership with Societies, which advocates for student empowerment through student-led projects, partnership with community-centered events, and transformation through leadership-inspired programs.

"I believe that the student council is not just limited to the elected student leaders that we have and their platform of government, but this is the student body itself, so this extends to everyone," remarked the Vice presidential candidate.

Dela Fuente, who is running for the secretarial position, also bared his plans to create an official CON discord server as a communication initiative, organize a gender identity webinar, and, “Under Upper”, a project on inter batch collegiate coordination.

Thomasians are set to cast their vote virtually in the University polls starting April 4 and ending on April 8
