CON celebrates 342 Batch 2023 graduates

The UST College of Nursing (UST CON) honored the graduates of Batch 2023 during the Solemn Investiture Rites held at the Quadricentennial Pavilion on Friday, June 23.

The College produced 342 successful graduates of the nursing program from nine sections. 292 students were Latin Honor awardees, with 253 students finishing cum laude and 39 students graduating magna cum laude.

The ceremony began with a processional walk and an invocation by Rev. Fr. Julius Paul Factora, the CON Regent.

The nurses’ pins were given by Dean Rowena Escolar Chua, Asst. Dean Maria Glenda Lee Sevilla, and Assoc. Prof. Rouena Villarama. They were assisted by Assoc. Prof. Charito Malong-Consolacion, Asst. Prof. Rolisa Almario, and Diana Anenias, the Level IV Chair.

Justine Denyll Elazegui of 4NUR-4, the Salutatorian of her batch, petitioned for the declaration of her fellow students as graduates.

“As a popular saying goes, ‘Malayo pa, pero malayo na’,” remarked Elazegui in her petition.

The Address of Concession was delivered by Prof. Cheryl Peralta, the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs. The parents of the candidates conducted the Imposition of Hoods afterward.

Dean Chua presented the candidates for graduation, while Prof. Peralta conferred the degrees and the academic awards.

Loyalty Silver Medal Awards were conferred to 19 nursing graduates who have studied at the University since Junior High School. Alyssa Andrea Corpuz of 4NUR-3 was then presented with the Award for Academic Excellence by Carl Balita for being the Rector’s Awardee of the College of Nursing.

Jeffrey Louis Din of 4NUR-4, a Magna Cum Laude graduate, led the Thomasian pledge. Carl Balita inducted the graduates into the UST Nursing Alumni Association as its President.

Corpuz concluded the ceremony with an Address of Thanks as the Valedictorian of Class 2023, having achieved a general weighted average (GWA) of 1.22.

Nursing is and never was easy, yet my journey as a student nurse was the best. Four years and how many tears later, I can say that it was all worth it.Corpuz stated in her speech.

This year’s seniors underwent their second and third years of nursing school purely online due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They were required to complete pending cases in the Delivery Room as part of their Related Learning Experience (RLE) before being cleared to graduate.

UST sent off a total of 9,473 graduates for the Academic Year 2022-2023.
