AklatHalina: Mga Kwentong Pambata opens new worlds for kids with storytelling episode

Filipino kids got opportunities to read and write at the live stream of AklatHalina: Mga Kwentong Pambata held on March 6, showcasing three storytelling sessions featuring children’s books.

Organized by the Nursing Central Board of Students and the Nursing Journal in collaboration with Streets to Schools, the online series featured three children’s books narrated by nursing student volunteers and professors.

The first book, “What Color is Today,” was read by Vashtee Marie Tan of 3NUR9. This rhyming story was about the onset of the pandemic and how a family has coped with its effects. Following this was a narration of the book “Bukas na si Cajon” by Alexandra Jane Tamondong, also of 3NUR9, which aimed to break the stereotypical image of boys and girls in art.

The episode concluded with “Why We Stay Home,” both authored and narrated by Sherihan Montaña, a faculty member of the College of Nursing. She was accompanied by her son, Jared Montaña, who acted out the part of the son in the story. The book explains the importance of staying home to keep others safe during a pandemic.

AklatHalina is a continuation project of “AklatHalina: Ang Unang Kabanata,” a literacy initiative jumpstarted by the Streets to Schools Organization last November 2021.
